The cost of research is enormous. In the 11 years since our research began, the Canavan Research Foundation has raised over $2 million, all of which was raised through fundraisers and private donations. However, these funds have been used in their entirety to finance research and clinical trials to this date. Future research will not be possible without continued support. Projected expenses for 2010 are over $850,000. Does the Foundation receive any public or government funding? Even though the research we support has shown significant promise and has the potential to benefit other many diseases, because Canavan Disease is considered an orphan disease, the Canavan Research Foundation still receives little public funding. Our research is extremely dependent on private donations, and that means your generosity. Where does my donation go? The Canavan Research Foundation is completely a volunteer organization, so virtually all the money we receive goes directly into research...directly into helping the children suffering today and those children yet to be born.
