Hi

I do this with Ben when he is expecting surgery and previously have kept the children at home for a couple of weeks before planned surgery.  Ben's school are great and if lots of children are off with a bug they will let me know in case I want to keep him away.  He didn't go to pre-school but a couple of groups for children with special needs and they were strict about keeping your child away if they had been ill so it was always safe to go to.  Since Ben's little sister has started main stream school it's harder because I can't keep her home and she catches what's going around. I wish parents wouldn't send their children to school when they are sick!
