Ben is having UTI's quite often, the trouble is the antibiotics to get rid of it causes severe diahorreah, the worst I have ever seen, we have tried 4 different kinds now.  Just wondered if anyone else has had the same problems and if they found a solution?

Best wishes to all

Hi Arva

Sorry to hear that your daughter is also having problems.  About 3 weeks ago I learned to use a catheter, I really didn't want to do it but now if Ben has not passed urine in 3 hours then I relieve him with the catheter and he wears one over night so he gets a good chance to drain and hopefully reduce the size of his bladder which has become large.

We are considering some surgery in the new year which will create a stoma to put a catheter into called a mitrafanoff, there's some info about it at

ttp://www.gosh.nhs.uk/gosh_families/information_sheets/catheter_mitrofanoff/catheter_mitrofanoff_discharge.html

Best wishes

Sally

I just thought I would update that fianlly we have found an antibiotic that is keeping Ben's urine infections away without causing horrible side effects. It is Nitrofurantoin and Ben has 5 mls at bedtime.
