Is there anybody using antibiotics periodically?

Sarp is having pnomonia very frequently (9 times till now even he is 16 months old) and I am planning to visit an immunologist for this reason. But before seeing a doctor I need to hear your opinions if you use any medicine or natural supplements etc. to strengthen the immunization system. Do you use antibiotics during winter time (For example starting from September till April) because I have heart from some mothers that to be in a rotuine antibiotic treatment is preventing serious pnomonies. If you use please let me know the name of it and how long have you been using?

Please raise you hands if you have any idea,

Many hugs to all,

Tiffany,

You said, "lilliana has been on amoxacillin daliy for over a year " means that she is always getting antibotics everyday in a whole year. How about the liver? Is that OK with antibotics?

And how much cc/mg you give amoxicillin? When I realize that Sarp's lungs are having a problem I start to give Augmentin (similar antibiotic with amoxicillin) 5 cc x 2 times a day. But we are recommended to use it only 10 days long. But I am looking for a stable solution. I asked some doctors to use antibiotics for a long time but most of them told me it is not possible. This time I will try to ask a immunologist. After I get detailed info from you about antibiotic treatment I will let the doctor know about this treatment.

Thanks again in advance,

we give 5 cc everyday . the bottle says its  200mg/5ml. so for every 5ml or 5cc its a 200mg dose.  its a low dose.  you might want to contact dr. leone so you and your doctors understands it.  it might benifit sarp if you could get your doctors to communicate with dr leone and then maybe he could be on the canavan cocktail.

we've never had problems with her liver. she does get monthly blood work though.

Hi there- sorry to hear about the reoccuring pnuemonia. The amoxicillian used as part of the Canavan cocktail (a Quinn family discovery!!) is not used to prevent illness in lowers the glutamate level which helps with tone. It will not prevent pnuemonia, in my opinion.

Lots of chest pysiotherapy, proper positioning when eating and a gtube insertion does help immensely but it is a constant battle. Also, an anti reflux medicine such as prevacid taken daily should be a good start. Best of luck.

So, just a side note, and this could be just a Vinny thing but...

When we started Vinny on the amox for the cocktail - he started having seizures. After just a little bit of research I learned that antibiotics in the penicillin family are known to lower the seizure threshold. Maybe it was just a coincidence but definitely not worth it to us. We stopped the amox and he's been seizure free since September.

Just my two cents!
